Directors
Sylvia Ellsworth
President
Sylvia Ellsworth moved to Shepherdstown in 1989. She is the mother of three lovely children. She and her husband own two music stores and catering business. Sylvia has seen the Station go from total disrepair to its current glorious state. She manages the Station reservations with grace and enthusiasm. In her spare time, Sylvia collects napkin rings and aspires to be a redhead.
Howard Mills
Treasurer
Every organization that has beans needs a bean counter. Howard Mills serves in capacity as Treasurer for the Station at Shepherdstown. He learned to count beans on a farm in Indiana (where there are lots of them). He retired from a career in the Food Processing Business and moved to Shepherdstown in 2000.
Dabney Chapman Dabney Chapman is a former Foreign Service Officer who retired to Shepherdstown nearly twenty years ago. His work at U.S. diplomatic missions abroad -- western Europe, Russia, Turkey, Croatia and Afghanistan -- was largely cultural and informational. In the late 60's he headed the European Division of the Voice of America. For several years he taught Russian and German at Shepherd and remains active in the life of the Episcopal church and Shepherdstown Rotary. Reared and educated in Virginia, he advocates return to the Old Dominion of the lower Shenandoah Valley counties currently (mal)administered by Charleston.
Rebecca Phipps
Rebecca Phipps - Becky moved to Shepherdstown in December of 2000 with her moving van almost getting caught up in the Christmas parade which she took as a good sign. After 30 years with the federal government, Becky retired in 2007 and enjoys life in Shepherdstown with great friends including large cat Fred and small dog Cookie. She can be spotted almost every day marching around town with Cookie in whose reflected glory she is happy to bask. In warm weather, Becky enjoys digging up her yard as well as observing what comes up from prior years. She also likes reading, music and telling jokes.
Tanya Shiben
Al Cobb Al has been happy to call Jefferson County home for nearly 20 years. He is married and has three daughters, and jokingly remarks that he has the gray hair to prove it! He is the president and CEO of Panelwrights, a company that builds energy-efficient homes and commercial buildings; he also runs the SIP school where methods for installing energy efficient Structural Insulated Paneling are taught. Al is in demand nationwide, internationally, and intergalactically as an expert on SIP. His knowledge and expertise are most appreciated as the march to preserve Shepherdstown's beautiful 100-year old station and make it ever more energy efficient is an ongoing process and Al has most of the answers.
Amy McCormick Amy (the station boards’ newest member) is a native West Virginian hailing from Kanawha County and has lived in Shepherdstown for 15 years. She is the Assistant Director of Development for Corporate and Foundations at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) in Harpers Ferry. She has a diverse background in fundraising, nonprofit board relations, marketing, teaching and human resources. She has been an adjunct professor of Communications at Shepherd University and is a former member of the human resources team at Charles Town Races and Slots. Since moving to Shepherdstown she has completed an M.A. degree in Communications from West Virginia University and driven in President Clinton’s Earth Day motorcade in Harpers Ferry. When she is not raising money for ATC, she enjoys music, decorating, expanding her shoe collection, serving the community, traveling, and entertaining friends and family (oh, and eating hard shell crabs).
